1What is Web Hosting?
Every website has a host server and almost all use a web host to manage that storage. Not all web hosts provide the same level of quality, though. Uptime, data speed and quantity of transfer are the best measures of a host’s success. You can often pay more to get data transferred in higher quantities.
2What is shared web hosting?
Shared hosting means each user gets a certain portion of total available resources. Multiple domains hosted by the same server means the server’s capabilities are split between each domain. For low-bandwidth websites, the delays from shared resources will often be unnoticeable, but for heavey bandwidth websites delays can be significant.
3What is bandwidth and how much do you need?
Bandwidth is the amount of data accessed while viewing a website, or FTP transfering. Every user viewing a website transfers data to and from, the measurement of transfer is bandwidth. Images, audio files and video files are higher in bandwidth as generally they are larger files. If you have a graphics / media heavey website you have a higher bandwidth requirement than a simple text-only website.
4What is disk space and how much do I need?
Disk space is the total space available for users to store files. Files can be – HTML, images, videos – collective file size cannot exceed disk space. How much disk space you need is depends on what you are hosting through your site. Remember most of the time website and disk space only ever grows.
5What is SSL security?
An abbreviation for Secure Sockets Layer, a common protocol used to communicate information securely. The protocol provides a safe path between two internet connected machines or two machines on an internal network. You will see the browser displaying a padlock or the address showing a padlock along with a green bar – these are the signs of SSL doing its magic.
